The Singularity of Consciousness: Articles on Consciousness, Technology, and Self-Healing

The singularity is coming. Whether it is the point where computers become superintelligent, as predicted by Ray Kurzweil, The Singularity is Near (and we merge with them in his cyborgization of humanity scenario), or where humans become superconscious, as envisioned by Pierre de Chardin, is a pressing question that has consumed this author’s intellectual life for the past thirty years. This concern has evolved in the last five years in the author’s additional publication of several novels and one nonfiction title that addresses these issues in their own oblique way. To further explore this speculation, he has written articles for international magazines that delve into this existential problem, as some might call it. This dilemma includes the downside of our singular technological culture, such as the extreme masculine “mentalization” of our culture at the expense of humanity’s innate “yin” or female qualities. It may result in humanity’s devolution into cyborgs in some dark future. The book also has articles on self-healing, using recapitulation to clear past trauma and rising kundalini energy to evolve oneself and offset this trend. There is an Addendum with bits and pieces and a rather apocalyptic article written 30 years ago, “The Birth of a New Species,” which may be nature’s extreme solution to this development.

Threshold: A Crisis Ignites a Universal Awakening

A Jungian psychiatrist in San Francisco questions an analysand of her dreamlike visions of other people’s lives. The doctor believes this is the Collective Unconscious connecting this woman to greater humanity. In London, her teacher analyzes a Russian dissident, who in the fall of 2021, has a “waking dream” of Vladimir Putin’s war plans. This claim comes to the attention of MI5. In Novosibirsk, Russia, a young girl warns her teacher about a car accident, one of many “daydreams” that alerts an FSB officer. Against the background of a growing world crisis, doctors at a Jungian Symposium wonder if the “Collective Unconscious is orchestrating a kind of group therapy on the human race.” As government security agencies try to contain this “psychic virus,” it pushes humanity toward Pierre de Chardin’s “Omega Point” and the possible spiritual unification of the human species. “A story that enfolds you so tightly that you can only wonder, when will this happen.” -- Novelist Donald Altman.

The Serpent of Time: Erase the Past and You Change the Future

Writer-PI Bill Hays is living in self-exile on the Navajo Reservation in Shiprock, New Mexico. When famed Anasazi archeologist Deborah Hughes goes missing at Mesa Verde, Bill investigates her disappearance. This leads to a search for other missing people at Anasazi and Native American sites in the Four Corners area. He discovers that these people had come for the sites’ healing properties, and that there has been an upsurge of magnetic energy in the Southwest. Bill and his spiritual partner, Leslie Anne, soon find themselves in another pitched battle with the evil sorcerer Ramon de Onate, who has aligned himself with a U.S. military unit to suppress these upsurges. This energy could elevate human consciousness if they become more widespread. “John Nelson is a master storyteller.” Donald Altman, author.

This Moment Paradise: 101 Poems for an Empty Minds

The cover of this collection of what the author calls Zen-like poems, although he claims no formal association with this tradition, is lush and full-bodied unlike the attenuated cover images of other such collections. This reflects not only the author’s saturated nature imagery but his broader interest in contemporary thought from psychology to physics, not usually the subjects of such poetry. The poems also represent another side of an author of speculative fiction and nonfiction who has come “To see a world in a grain of sand,” to quote William Blake, or see it revealed in this moment “with no beginning and no end.” Someone who has “fallen in love with the many faces of God,” and who invites the reader to do the same.

A Guide to Energetic Healing: From clearing trauma/abuse to raising consciousness

Every physical, emotional, or sexual exchange you have with another human being creates an energetic cord between you and “them.” It’s like quantum entanglement; your energy is connected to that experience and that person until you sever the cord. As these exchanges mount up, your energy body will become so tied up and depleted that you will open yourself to disease and accidents. The Toltec art of recapitulation, first introduced by Carlos Castaneda, which the author has practiced for thirty years, can help release these cords and reclaim this lost energy for your greater development. Once cleared the author presents a developmental path to raise one’s consciousness.

I Human: An Intriguing and Superb Futuristic Spy Thriller, Andrew Kaplan, author of the Homeland and Scorpion novels

Where George Orwell in 1984 feared a totalitarian world of total camera surveillance, and Aldous Huxley in Brave New World foretold of the use of psychopharmaceuticals to placate the masses, "I, Human" posits that next techno advance toward this dystopia would be the use of neural implants and their drug conditioning. However, after fifty years of their use, the techno elites have lost the ability to program integrative functioning. This sets the stage for Alan Reynard and his journey from a callous transhuman operative to a feeling-oriented intuitive human being. The effects of his own healing transforms him and sets him on a course to undermine the oligarchy's social control.

Bright Light: Spiritual Lessons from a Life in Acting by Dee Wallace with John Nelson

Like all of us, Dee Wallace came in as a bright shiny light, and she knew from the beginning that her soul quest was to keep that light shining and share it with others. It is also a story of Everyman: how we lose our light and steps we can take to reclaim it. For Dee Wallace has discovered, like her co-star E.T., that the journey home comes from following the heart’s lead.

Matrix of the Gods

After an ecological collapse, the world’s population was herded into domed mega-cities controlled by all-pervasive subliminal programming.  Rama, a 21st century Buddha, the green guru, threatened that control with his “expanded consciousness” and was confined in a Tesla-field prison in the Swiss Alps. When calls for his release forces the government’s hand, it triggers a showdown between forces that would continue to subjugate humanity and those that would free us.

Solstice Shift

On the Summer Solstice in 1996, Magical Blend magazine gathered a group of its contributors together for an “experiment in consciousness,” based on a concept by the book’s editor John Nelson.  If we are all connected at a higher level, then a group of tuned-in authors could individually tap into a collective mindset and write a book together inspired by a common theme, with the order of their chapters randomly selected at the outset. The authors included Ken Carey, Jean Houston, Lynn Andrews, Neale Donald Walsch, Barbara Hand Clow, David Spangler, and Shakti Gawain.

The Magic Mirror: Divination through the Ancient Art of Scrying

Scrying—receiving information via images by peering into a spring as did the oracles at Delphi, or gazing into a crystal ball as did the legendary Merlin—is the most ancient of all divination systems.  The author has used Jungian psychology and quantum physics to reinterpret this ancient art for modern readers.  Winner of the 2008 COVR award for Best Book, and Best Divination System. “I think this simple little book and its black scrying mirror can inspire millions to access potent and subtle mind states.” Barbara Hand Clow from her foreword.
